Collecting data

The Health and Social Care Information Centre has responsibility for collecting data from across the health and social care system.

This section brings together information on our manually submitted data collections and guidance for using our data collection systems.

To minimise the burden on frontline services, where possible we collect data derived from operational systems, rather than using bespoke collections or data returns. Much of our data is collected in this way, and not necessarily detailed here

  • Data transfer tools

Descriptions and guidance to the tools we use to collect and transfer data.

  • Data collections

Read details of individual data collections, including submission dates.

  • Data sets

National data sets define a standard set of information that is generated from care records, from any organisation or system that captures the base data.
