Mental health act statistics consultation

Summary of comments received, and plans for future work

The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) conducted a public consultation in Spring 2012 on the future of our Mental Health Act statistics public 'Inpatients formally detained in hospitals under the Mental Health Act 1983, and patients subject to supervised community treatment, annual figures' publication. The aims of the consultation were to:

  • To assess the impact of a potential change of data source from the online KP90 collection to administrative data from the Mental Health Minimum Dataset on users;
  • To assess how the potential change of data source could add value to these statistics;
  • To review and ensure continued usefulness of our Mental Health Act statistics;
  • To prepare for a pending assessment of our Mental Health Act statistics.
